Day 4 of 5: Extinguish the Arrows
🔥 Fear, temptation and accusation can spread through our thoughts and choices. Faith helps us bring those pressures under the truth of God’s Word.
🛡️ Day 4 of 5: The Power of the Armor — The Shield of Faith
đź“– Scripture
Ephesians 6:16 (NIV, excerpt)
“…take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
🪞 Reflection
A fire can begin with a small spark.
An anxious thought can grow into hours of worry. A temptation can become a choice we later regret. An accusation can leave us ashamed and reluctant to approach God.
Paul’s image of flaming arrows helps us understand why we need the shield of faith. The enemy seeks to damage our trust in God and draw us toward responses that spread harm through our lives.
We cannot always control which thoughts first enter our minds, but we can choose how to respond to them.
When fear says you have been abandoned, return to the truth of God’s faithful presence. When temptation offers relief through disobedience, remember that Jesus is worthy of your trust. When accusation tells you to hide, come to Him in repentance and receive His forgiveness.
Faith brings the pressure into the light of what God has said.
That response may include opening your Bible, praying before you speak, stepping away from a tempting situation or asking someone trustworthy for help. Taking up the shield can be a very practical act of obedience.
It also helps us distinguish condemnation from conviction. God’s correction leads us toward repentance and restored fellowship. Condemnation urges us to hide and believe we are beyond His mercy.
The sermon also reminded us that Scripture speaks of the Holy Spirit’s fire. We resist what draws us into sin while remaining open to the Spirit’s work, guidance and correction.
Ask yourself:
🔥 What thought or temptation has been spreading through my life?
🪞 Have I been treating an accusation as though it were God’s truth?
đź“– What Scripture can guide my response?
🛡️ What practical step will help me resist this pressure today?
Bring the struggle to Jesus early. Let His truth guide your response before the pressure shapes your choices.
💡 Take up the shield of faith by trusting God’s truth and responding in obedience.
🎙️ From the Sermon
Pastor Sonny described flaming arrows as attacks that can spread through fear, doubt, temptation and accusation. He emphasized trusting Jesus to extinguish them and distinguished the enemy’s destructive fire from the work of the Holy Spirit.
🙏 Prayer
Father, help me recognize thoughts and temptations that draw me away from You.
Bring Your truth to mind when fear or accusation comes. Give me courage to resist temptation, confess sin and receive Your forgiveness.
