🪖 God’s Word gives us a dependable place to seek direction, receive correction and learn how to follow Jesus.

🪖 Day 4 of 5: The Power of the Armor — The Helmet of Salvation

đź“– Scripture

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,”

🪞 Reflection

Where do you turn when you need direction?

A friend’s advice may be helpful. A strong feeling may demand your attention. An online voice may sound confident. With so many messages around us, it takes care to recognize which guidance we should follow.

Pastor Sonny compared the helmet of salvation to helmets that allow athletes and drivers to receive instructions. The picture reminds us to remain attentive to the Lord as we move through the day.

Scripture provides the foundation for that attention. In 2 Timothy 3:16, Paul describes God’s Word as useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training. Sometimes it confirms a step we need to take. Sometimes it exposes an attitude we would rather excuse.

Pray honestly about your situation, then bring your thoughts and impressions to Scripture. Read passages in context. A strong feeling does not give us permission to disregard something God has clearly taught.

Wise counsel also helps us grow. Pastors and mature believers can help us understand a passage, recognize a blind spot or consider a response we had overlooked. Receive their help with humility while continuing to examine the guidance in light of God’s Word.

Correction may be uncomfortable. You may discover that you owe someone an apology or that a decision needs to change. Taking that next faithful step can require courage, especially when it interrupts what you wanted to do.

You do not need every detail of the future before responding to what God has already made clear. Begin with the instruction in front of you. Ask Him for wisdom, welcome sound counsel and obey the truth you understand.

Ask yourself:

🪖 Whose voice has been shaping my decisions most strongly?

🪞 Have I tested my impressions and the advice I receive against Scripture?

đź“– What correction have I been reluctant to accept?

🙏 What clear instruction from God’s Word can I act on today?

Make room to listen, learn and change. God’s Word can guide your next step even while other questions remain unanswered.

💡 We become more receptive to God’s direction as we pray, study Scripture and respond humbly to correction.

🎙️ From the Sermon

Pastor Sonny used communication devices in helmets to illustrate receiving instruction. He urged believers to bring what they think or feel to God’s Word and described pastors as helpers who point the church back to that truth.

🙏 Prayer

Father, quiet the distractions that make it difficult for me to listen.

Help me understand Your Word and recognize when my preferences are directing me. Give me humility to receive correction and wisdom to seek sound counsel.

Jesus, help me obey what You have made clear. Guide my next step and make me willing to change.

Amen.

✍️ Today’s Action

Read 2 Timothy 3:14–17. Bring one current decision to God in prayer, then consider how Scripture speaks to it.

Then complete these statements:

One decision for which I need wisdom is:

One biblical teaching that should guide my response is:

One step I will take, or one person I will ask for counsel, is:
