God reveals what offends Him so grace can redirect us.

Psalm 139:24a (NLT)“Point out anything in me that offends you.”

🪞 Reflection

David has prayed against evil, yet he remains conscious that the seeds of evil can also exist within his own heart. That awareness keeps spiritual passion from becoming self-righteousness. He asks God to reveal anything offensive—especially the sin he cannot yet see.

Some sins are obvious. Others hide beneath respectable language. Control calls itself responsibility. Pride calls itself excellence. Bitterness calls itself discernment. Avoidance calls itself peace. Because self-deception is possible, we need more than personal inspection. We need the loving diagnosis of the Holy Spirit.

🩺 Conviction is not condemnation. Condemnation says, “You are beyond hope.” Conviction says, “This is harming you; bring it into the light and let God redirect you.”

The sermon compares this prayer to allowing God to perform surgery. Surgery is invasive because healing sometimes requires reaching beneath the surface. A skilled surgeon does not cut in order to destroy but to remove what threatens life and restore what has been damaged.

Zacchaeus models a response to conviction in Luke 19. After encountering Jesus, he does not offer a vague apology. He names the possibility that he has cheated others and becomes willing to make restitution. Genuine conviction moves beyond feeling bad. It produces confession, repentance, repair, and a changed direction.

Ask yourself:

🔦 Is there an attitude or habit I have excused because it is familiar?

🗣️ Has God used Scripture, prayer, or another person to point something out?

🧱 Am I responding with defensiveness or surrender?

🤝 Is there a practical repair or act of restitution I need to make?

Position yourself for a daily dose of holy conviction and redirection. Do not fear the Surgeon’s hands. The God who points out what is wrong also supplies forgiveness, cleansing, wisdom, and power to change.

Your confession does not inform God of something He missed. It brings you into agreement with what He already knows and opens your life to the freedom He desires.

Holy Spirit, point out anything in me that offends You. Reveal unknown and unperceived sin without allowing me to hide in shame. Give me a soft heart, honest confession, and practical repentance. Redirect my steps and make my life pleasing to You. Amen.
