📖 Scripture

John 15:2 (KJV)

“Every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”

🪞 Reflection

Expansion requires capacity.

Before God adds more, He often strengthens the person who will be responsible for carrying it. That strengthening may look like discipline, correction, consistency, or pruning.

None of those feels exciting in the moment.

🧾 A budget can feel restrictive.

⏰ Consistency can feel repetitive.

💬 Correction can feel uncomfortable.

✂️ Pruning can feel like loss.

But the Gardener sees what the branch cannot. He knows which habits are draining life, which distractions are limiting growth, and which attitudes will not survive the weight of greater responsibility.

The sermon connected financial obedience with discipleship. Pastor Sonny explained that learning discipline in giving helped develop discipline in other areas of life. That is an important truth: God is not interested in one isolated part of us. He is forming whole disciples.

How we handle money can reveal how we handle trust.

How we respond to correction can reveal how we handle authority.

How we care for our bodies can reveal how we handle stewardship.

How we keep commitments can reveal whether we are ready for greater responsibility.

Obedience is not a transaction by which we purchase God’s favor. Grace cannot be bought.

Obedience is our response to the God who has already been radically generous toward us. It demonstrates that He is first and that we trust His wisdom above our impulses.

Sometimes we say, “I will become faithful when God gives me more.” But more rarely creates faithfulness. More usually magnifies what is already present.

If we are careless with little, more gives us more opportunities to be careless. If we are generous with little, more gives us more opportunities to bless.

Ask yourself:

🔍 What is my current stewardship revealing about my heart?

✂️ What habit is God asking me to cut back or remove?

📅 Where do I need consistency instead of occasional effort?

🌱 How might today’s discipline prepare me for tomorrow’s expansion?

Do not despise the pruning season. God may be developing the strength, wisdom, and integrity required for the prayer He intends to answer.

💡 Faithfulness with what is already in your hands prepares your heart for whatever God places there next.

Pastor Sonny shared that we must learn faithfulness with what we have now if we want to be trusted with more later.

🙏 Prayer

Father, make me faithful with everything You have entrusted to me.

Correct what is unhealthy, prune what limits fruitfulness, and strengthen my discipline. Keep me from waiting for better circumstances before I obey.

Let my finances, time, body, relationships, and responsibilities all come under the lordship of

Jesus. Prepare me to carry increase with humility and wisdom.

Amen.
