Day 4 of 5: Grow in the Grace of Giving
🌍 As you grow in faith, invite God to shape your generosity through consistent, willing acts of obedience.
🌍 Day 4 of 5: Missions Sunday — Grow in the Grace of Giving
đź“– Scripture
2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV, excerpt)
“see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”
🪞 Reflection
Where is God inviting you to grow in generosity?
We often recognize the need to grow in prayer, knowledge of Scripture and the way we speak to others. Generosity also belongs in that process of becoming more like Jesus.
In 2 Corinthians 8:7, Paul acknowledges areas where the Corinthians excel. Then he urges them to grow in giving as well. Their strengths in other areas do not make this invitation unnecessary.
You may love worship, enjoy studying the Bible and gladly serve in the church. Still, God may be putting His finger on a habit of holding tightly to your resources or delaying a response to a need.
Pastor Sonny connected generosity to the person we become as we give ourselves to Jesus. A generous life develops as His grace shapes our desires and decisions.
Consider how growth happens. A person learning to pray practices turning toward God throughout the week. A person learning patience practices responding differently when frustrated. In a similar way, we grow in generosity by making room for it in actual choices.
That may mean reviewing your spending, setting aside an amount for missions or following through on a commitment you have already made. It may mean asking God to expose the comparison that makes your gift feel insignificant or the desire for recognition that affects your motives.
Begin honestly with where you are. Ask what faithfulness looks like with your present resources and responsibilities. Then take a step you can follow through on.
Over time, repeated acts of willing obedience can change the way you think about what you have. You become more attentive to opportunities to share and more prepared to respond when a need arises.
Today, invite God to make generosity a growing part of your everyday life.
Ask yourself:
🌍 Do I pursue growth in giving as intentionally as growth in other areas of faith?
🪞 What habit or attitude makes generosity difficult for me?
đź“– Why might Paul call giving a grace in which believers can excel?
🙏 What specific practice could help me become more consistent in giving?
Receive this invitation with humility and hope. God is still forming your character, and your next faithful step matters.
💡 We grow in generosity as God’s grace shapes our habits, motives and use of resources.
🎙️ From the Sermon
Pastor Sonny highlighted Paul’s call for the Corinthians to excel in the grace of giving. He taught that generosity grows from giving ourselves to Jesus and making our resources freely available to Him.
🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You for continuing to shape my life.
Show me where my habits and motives need to change. Help me receive Your correction and respond with a willing heart.
Teach me to plan wisely, keep my commitments and become more attentive to the needs of others. Let generosity become a consistent expression of my faith in You.
Amen.
