🤲 What you have been through does not change who you belong to.
🕊️ Day 3 of 5: There Is Power in the Vine — Still His Branch
đź“– Scripture
Romans 8:38–39
“Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers…will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
🪞 Reflection
Loss has a way of asking identity questions.
Who am I without this job?
Who am I without this relationship?
Who am I now that the plan changed?
Who am I after rejection, disappointment, or failure?
In the sermon, Pastor Brittany described John as a man who had lived through much. He experienced ridicule, persecution, isolation, and the loss of fellow disciples. Yet hardship did not have the authority to rename him. He was still a branch, and Jesus was still the true vine.
That truth matters because difficult circumstances often reveal where our identity has been resting. If losing something makes us feel that we have lost ourselves completely, that thing may have been carrying a weight it was never designed to hold.
People are precious, work can be meaningful, and dreams can be God-given. But none of them can be our vine. They cannot provide the permanent source of life, security, and belonging that only Jesus gives.
🌿 Your circumstances may change, but your connection to Christ remains your deepest truth.
You may have been overlooked, but you are still His branch.
You may have been misunderstood, but you are still His branch.
You may be entering an unfamiliar season, but you are still His branch.
You may not know how everything will work out, but you are still His branch.
Ask yourself:
đź’” What loss has made me feel unsure of who I am?
🗣️ Whose voice have I allowed to define me?
🤲 What would it look like to place my security in Jesus again?
🌅 Can I trust God to make something new without losing who I am in Him?
You do not have to deny your pain to stand in your identity. You can grieve honestly and still declare faithfully, “I am His, and He is mine.”
đź’ˇ The storm can shake your circumstances without changing your place in the vine.
🎙️ From the Sermon
“I don’t know what you’ve been through. You are still His branch.”
🙏 Prayer
Jesus, meet me in every place where change or loss has made me feel uncertain.
Heal the parts of my heart that have looked to people, positions, or possessions to tell me who I am. Remind me that nothing can separate me from Your love.
Give me grace to grieve what has changed while remaining secure in what has not: I belong to You.
Amen.
✍️ Today’s Action
Name one loss, rejection, or change that has affected your sense of identity. Place your hand over your heart and say aloud three times:
🌿 “Jesus is still the vine, and I am still His branch.”
Then write:
What has changed:
What remains true:
What I need to entrust to Jesus:
One sign of the new thing God may be doing:
