✂️ God may remove something good to produce something greater.
🕊️ Day 3 of 5: There’s Power in the Vine
📖 Scripture
John 15:2
“Every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”
🪞 Reflection
Pruning can feel like loss.
A gardener cuts away parts of a healthy plant—not because the plant is worthless, but because the gardener sees its potential.
The branch cannot understand the entire process. It only experiences the cutting.
We sometimes experience God’s work in the same way.
🚪 A door closes.
🤝 A relationship changes.
📅 A familiar routine becomes unsustainable.
🏆 An opportunity we expected does not arrive.
🪞 God confronts a habit we would rather keep.
Our first reaction may be to assume that something has gone wrong.
But Jesus says fruitful branches are pruned.
That means pruning is not necessarily evidence of God’s rejection. It may be evidence of His careful attention.
🌱 God prunes what He intends to grow.
He may remove distractions that consume our spiritual energy.
He may expose attitudes that cannot accompany us into the next season.
He may ask us to release commitments that are good but no longer God’s assignment.
He may confront pride, impatience, self-reliance, or the need for approval.
The purpose is not pain for pain’s sake.
The purpose is greater fruitfulness.
✝️ The Gardener sees what the branch cannot see.
God knows which parts of our lives are becoming overgrown.
He knows which habits are preventing healthy growth.
He knows what must be strengthened before we can carry the weight of new fruit.
Pruning invites us to trust God’s character when we do not understand His process.
Ask yourself:
✂️ What might God be asking me to release?
🧳 What am I carrying from a previous season?
🪴 What good thing has become an unhealthy attachment?
🛡️ Where am I resisting God because change feels uncomfortable?
Not every loss is pruning, and not every difficulty should be spiritualized. Yet every season can be brought honestly before God.
We can ask Him for wisdom, healing, and the courage to cooperate with His work.
💡 What feels empty today may be the space where new growth appears tomorrow.
Do not measure God’s faithfulness only by what remains.
Sometimes His faithfulness is also revealed through what He lovingly removes.
🎙️ Sermon Takeaway
Life and growth come from remaining connected to Jesus and trusting the Father’s work in us.
🙏 Prayer
Father, You are the Gardener, and I trust Your hands.
Give me discernment to understand what You are asking me to release. When pruning is painful, remind me that You are not careless with my life.
Remove what prevents me from becoming more like Jesus, and produce fruit that brings You glory.
Amen.
✍️ Today’s Action
Identify one thing that may be limiting your spiritual growth.
Ask:
✂️ Is God asking me to release this?
😨 What am I afraid will happen if I let it go?
🌱 What new growth might become possible?
🤲 What would surrender look like today?
What I may need to release:
Why releasing it feels difficult:
My prayer of surrender:
