Day 3 of 5: It’s a Prune, Not a Cut

🌿 God’s pruning is preparation for greater fruitfulness.

🕊️ Day 3 of 5: There’s Power in the Vine — The Power of Still

📖 Scripture

John 15:2

“Every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

🪞 Reflection

Pruning can feel like loss.

An opportunity closes.

A familiar routine changes.

A relationship shifts.

A season becomes uncomfortable.

Something that once felt secure is suddenly removed.

Our first response may be, “God, why are You cutting me?” But Jesus teaches that a fruitful branch is not discarded—it is pruned so it can bear even more fruit.

✂️ Pruning is not rejection. It is careful preparation.

The gardener sees what the branch cannot see. He knows where growth is being restricted. He knows what is draining strength. He knows what must be trimmed so life can flow toward something healthier.

This does not mean every painful circumstance is easy to explain. It means we can examine our response honestly and remain faithful while God works.

Pastor Sonny encouraged the church to ask whether a difficult season is connected to disobedience or whether it is a pruning season occurring while we are walking in obedience. If God has revealed an area of sin or rebellion, the response is repentance. If we are obeying Him and life still feels uncomfortable, the response is continued faithfulness.

🌿 If it is disobedience, turn back. If it is pruning, stay faithful.

Pruning often makes little sense while it is happening. We may feel as though we are moving backward. We may be tempted to complain publicly, force open a closed door, or abandon the process before its purpose becomes visible.

But the branch does not need to understand every movement of the gardener’s hand. It needs to remain connected to the vine.

God may be pruning:

🧱 A habit that limits your growth.

📅 A commitment that has crowded out His presence.

👥 A relationship that continually pulls you away from obedience.

🪞 A mindset that once protected you but now prevents maturity.

🎯 A plan that is smaller than the purpose He has for you.

Do not mistake God’s careful work for His absence. The Gardener is close enough to touch the branch He is pruning.

💡 The discomfort may not mean God has left you. It may mean He is preparing you for more.

🎙️ From the Sermon

“When life cuts you even though you are bearing fruit, be still—because it’s not a cut; it’s a prune.”

🙏 Prayer

Father, You are the Gardener, and You see what I cannot see.

Search my heart and reveal any area where I need to repent. If this is a season of pruning, give me the faith to remain still and trust Your hand.

Remove what prevents healthy growth. Produce in me fruit that brings You glory.

Amen.

✍️ Today’s Action

Take an honest inventory of your current season. Write down one thing that feels as though it is being removed, delayed, or changed.

Ask:

🪞 Is God revealing any disobedience I need to confess?

✂️ What might He be pruning for healthier growth?

🌿 What would faithfulness look like today?

What feels uncomfortable right now:

What God may be developing in me:

My next faithful step:
