🌿 The better you know what is true, the easier it becomes to recognize what is false.
🕊️ Day 2 of 5: There’s Power in the Vine — The Power of Still
đź“– Scripture
John 15:1
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.”
🪞 Reflection
Every day, countless voices compete for our trust.
📱 Influencers tell us what to value.
đź“° Headlines tell us what to fear.
🧠Our emotions tell us what must be true.
👥 Other people tell us who we should become.
With so many voices speaking, it can become difficult to distinguish truth from imitation.
Jesus begins the picture of the vine and branches with a clear declaration: “I am the true vine.”
He does not simply claim to be one helpful source among many. He is the true source of spiritual life. He was true yesterday, He is true today, and He will remain true tomorrow.
Pastor Sonny shared how experts learn to recognize counterfeit money: they study the real thing so closely that anything false becomes easier to identify. In the same way, we do not overcome deception by obsessing over every false voice. We grow in discernment by spending time with Jesus.
🌿 You recognize the false by becoming familiar with the true.
The more you know His character, the easier it becomes to reject thoughts that misrepresent Him.
The more you know His Word, the easier it becomes to recognize advice that contradicts it.
The more you experience His presence, the less attractive false sources of peace become.
Knowing Jesus requires more than hearing about Him on Sunday. It requires a daily relationship—one built through Scripture, prayer, worship, obedience, and quiet attention.
Jesus invites you to come as you are, but His love will not leave you unchanged. He changed John from a hot-tempered “son of thunder” into a man remembered as the disciple Jesus loved. That same Jesus can transform our impatience, fear, anger, habits, and priorities.
Ask yourself:
🗣️ Which voices have carried the most influence in my life lately?
📖 Do I know God’s Word well enough to test what I hear?
🪞 Have I mistaken a strong emotion for God’s direction?
✝️ What part of Jesus’ character do I need to know more deeply?
The goal is not simply to know more information about Jesus. The goal is to know Him personally—and to allow yourself to be known by Him.
đź’ˇ Be still with the true Vine until His truth becomes more familiar than every counterfeit.
🎙️ From the Sermon
“You can’t recognize the false until you learn to be still long enough with the real and the true God.”
🙏 Prayer
Jesus, You are the true Vine.
Help me recognize the voices, beliefs, and distractions that pull me away from You. Give me a hunger for Your Word and a deeper desire to know Your heart.
Transform me as I spend time in Your presence. Let Your truth become louder than fear, culture, comparison, and confusion.
Amen.
✍️ Today’s Action
Choose one voice or source of input to pause for the next 24 hours. Use that time to read one chapter from the Gospel of John.
Ask:
🌿 What does this chapter reveal about Jesus?
🔍 What false belief does His truth correct?
👣 How should I respond to what I have learned?
A voice I need to turn down:
A truth about Jesus I need to remember:
One way I will respond in obedience:
