John 15:4

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.”

We live in a world that celebrates movement.

📅 Keep the schedule full.

📱 Keep scrolling for answers.

🏃 Keep pushing until something changes.

🧠 Keep thinking until every problem is solved.

But Jesus offers another way: remain.

In the sermon, Pastor Sonny explained that the word still can mean quiet and unmoving—but it can also mean continuing despite what has happened. To be still with Jesus is to remain with Him before the difficulty, during the difficulty, and after it passes.

Stillness is not pretending that life is easy. It is choosing not to move away from Jesus when life becomes hard.

The apostle John learned this kind of stillness. He remained a disciple through change, persecution, loss, isolation, and old age. He stayed close enough to hear Jesus, learn His teachings, receive the Holy Spirit, and carry the gospel forward.

John’s strength was not found in constantly changing direction. His strength came from remaining with the One who never changes.

🌿 The same is true for us.

Sometimes we move because we are afraid.

Sometimes we make rushed decisions because silence feels uncomfortable.

Sometimes we chase opinions, relationships, opportunities, or distractions because waiting on God feels too slow.

Yet Jesus does some of His deepest work when we become quiet enough to listen and steady enough to obey.

Stillness makes room for His voice.

Stillness allows His Word to settle into our hearts.

Stillness teaches us that we do not have to react to everything happening around us.

Ask yourself:

🔊 What noise has been making it difficult to hear Jesus?

🏃 Where have I been moving without God’s direction?

⏳ What situation is testing my willingness to remain?

🙏 What might Jesus teach me if I became still long enough to listen?

You do not need to have every answer today. Your responsibility is to stay close to the One who does.

💡 Stillness says, “Even here, even now, and despite this, I will remain with Jesus.”

🙏 Prayer

Jesus, quiet the noise within me and around me.

Forgive me for moving ahead of You or searching everywhere else for what can only be found in Your presence. Teach me to remain with You when life feels uncertain.

Help me listen more, trust more, and react less. Make me steady in Your love and sensitive to Your voice.

Amen.
