Day 1 of 5: Put the Breastplate in Place

🛡️ Righteousness is not something we earn—it is a gift from Jesus that protects our identity and directs our lives.

🕊️ Day 1 of 5: The Power of the Armor — The Breastplate of Righteousness

📖 Scripture

Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.”

🪞 Reflection

A soldier would never enter battle without protecting the most vulnerable parts of his body.

The Roman breastplate covered the soldier from his neck to his waist. It protected both the front and the back because an attack from either direction could reach his vital organs—especially his heart.

Paul used this familiar piece of armor to illustrate an essential spiritual truth: Believers must keep the breastplate of righteousness in place.

The breastplate represents two connected truths:

🎁 The righteousness we receive from Christ.

🚶 The righteous life we are called to live in Christ.

We cannot earn salvation through good behavior. Jesus makes us righteous through His sacrifice, not through our performance. However, the righteousness we receive should transform the way we live.

The enemy attacks both truths.

He wants you to question whether you truly belong to God. He reminds you of past failures, rehearses your weaknesses and tries to convince you that you are disqualified.

Then, if he cannot make you reject your identity, he will tempt you to live beneath it. He wants you to receive salvation without allowing it to change your choices, habits or relationships.

The breastplate of righteousness protects you from both attacks.

When shame says, “You will always be who you were,” righteousness reminds you that you have been made new in Christ.

When temptation says, “It does not matter how you live,” righteousness reminds you that your life now belongs to Jesus.

When accusation says, “God could never use someone like you,” righteousness declares that your calling depends upon Christ’s goodness—not your perfection.

Ask yourself:

🛡️ Have I been trying to earn what Jesus has already given me?

🪞 Do I see myself according to my past or according to God’s Word?

🚪 Is there an area of my life that does not reflect my identity in Christ?

❤️ Is my breastplate securely in place today?

You do not put on the breastplate once and forget about it. Each day, you remember who you are in Jesus and choose to live from that identity.

💡 Righteousness is received through Christ and revealed through the life we live.

Pastor Sonny explained that the breastplate represents both our righteousness in Christ and our responsibility to live righteously through Christ. The enemy wants to discredit the righteousness we have received and discourage us from pursuing a holy life.

🙏 Prayer

Father, thank You for making me righteous through Jesus.

When the enemy accuses me, remind me that my identity is secure in Christ. When I am tempted to compromise, give me the strength to live in a way that reflects the salvation I have received.

Help me put on the breastplate of righteousness every day. Protect my heart, guide my choices and teach me to live for Your glory.
